Alabama Senate committee approves pension change for new public employees

MONTGOMERY, Alabama — The state of Alabama would save $5 billion over 31 years in estimated pension costs under a plan approved today by the Alabama Senate Finance and Taxation — General Fund Committee.

The plan would save the state money by reducing pension benefits for employees of state agencies and public schools, colleges and universities who are hired starting Jan. 1, 2013.
