At least 5 killed, 40 still missing after Canadian oil train blast forces town evacuation (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

Four tanker cars of petroleum exploded in the Canadian province of Quebec after a train derailed, destroying nearby buildings and leaving five dead and forty unaccounted for. A security zone has been imposed and about 2,000 evacuated from their homes.

Lt. Michel Brunet of the Quebec provincial police department confirmed one death initially, but refrained from divulging any other specific numbers. He said rescue teams and police were aware of ‘many’ missing people.

A further two bodies were recovered early on Sunday morning in the train’s wreckage. Canadian police later reported that the death toll had risen to five.
