Coach has been charged following investigation in separate incident in same school

UPDATE: 12/20/13- Susan Moore, Alabama: High school teacher, Crystal Gilliland Clowdus, has now been charged with transmitting obscene material to a child by computer and is being held at the Blount County Correctional Facility.

In another turn of events, the local NBC affiliate WVTM-13, is now reporting that a Coach from the same school is also being put on administrative leave for a separate incident involving a student. This incident was made known yesterday after a classroom complaint. The superintendent, Jim Carr,  says both cases are under investigation.

School System under Fire for Failing to Report Incident

Susan Moore School has had its fair share of controversy this year.  As reported in March of 2013, a first grade teacher at this school was charged with DUI after being stopped by State Troopers less than a mile from the school she taught first grade students.

In another shocking turn of events, another educator at the school is facing an investigation.  The high school teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into allegations that she had inappropriate communications with a student. The incident stems from the teacher “allegedly sending nude photos and text messages that were sexually charged to a student,”  and a parent alerting the District Attorney.ABC 33/40 – Birmingham News, Weather, Sports

Though the teacher has yet to be charged, District Attorney Pamela Casey has enlisted the assistance of the Alabama Bureau of Investigation to also assist in a separate investigation linked to the case. It is alleged that both the High School Principal and Superintendent were notified of the matter and neglected to report the incident to the proper authorities for a week or more. The law requires that incidents of this nature to be reported immediately.

More details will follow as this story develops.

  1. Wow, I would have never thought she would get caught doing something like that. She was my favorite teacher at Susan Moore. Maybe Jim Carr will finally get his sorry ass booted for not taking care of this when he should have though.

  2. She is very well known around our community. Her husbands family owns a very successful business and her family has always been “high on the totem pole”. THAT’S the reason why she is getting paid. I think its ridiculous! Obviously if she is in jail right now, they have enough evidence to prosecute.

    • Paid administrative leave is standard practice for most educational institutions. Regardless of what everyone thinks, or how much we might not like it, the school still has to follow certain guidelines to avoid being possibly sued by her if she were to be acquitted. “High on the totem pole” in Snead & Susan Moore isn’t saying a whole hell of a lot, lol.

  3. It is well known that if you are on the right side of politics and/or support the school administration, you are treated very differently by Jim Carr. He will do anything to “protect” his allies while being secretive and underhanded to terminate or make it so hard on those he has targeted that they are forced to resign.

  4. I went to SMHS a few years ago. It was hell. There was a lot of bullying and sexual things that were not dealt with. It was small town politics at its worst. If you were an athlete, you had very preferential treatment. I wish the principal at the time would have done something for all the kids who were being bullied openly. I’m a 2011 graduate of SMHS, but I hate to admit it.

  5. I don’t believe in karma, and most injustice are never fixed, but maybe now they will clean-up there act.

  6. The BOE of Blount County tends to cover things up that would make them look bad. I used to have a lot of respect for Jim Carr and the BOE but have ZERO now. I have gone to board meetings and heard of a principal mistreating her teachers and subs and nothing has been done even though there are witnesses to the principals wrong doings. The BOE said they would stand behind her. Well, I guess ole JC was going to stand behind this teacher who was sexting a student. I hope they all go to jail.
