In an overwhelming victory for the liberty movement, Iowa Republican Party Chairman A.J. Spiker won his reelection bid in a 13-5 vote victory over his opponent, Current Vice-Chair Bill Schickel. Spiker, State Vice-Chair for Ron Paul 2012 Campaign, also welcomed other Ron Paul Republicans to leadership positions to complete the takeover of the party.
Including the Chairmanship, three other high ranking positions were also won by Paul supporters:
-David Fischer was elected Co-Chairman (State Vice-Chair for Ron Paul 2012 Campaign)
– John Kabitzke was re-elected Treasurer (Ron Paul supporter)
– Mark Doland was elected Secretary (Worked for Bachmann, but political views and mindset are similar to the Paul supporters)
Not everyone was overly enthusiastic about the Ron Paul takeover, especially Bill Schickel, the co-chair of the Republican Party, and opponent to Spiker. Saturday he blasted the dominance of Ron Paul supporters within the state party.
“The words are fine about reaching out and opening the doors of our party, but when are our chair, our executive director, our communications director, our finance director are all from the Campaign for Liberty that sends a message that is disenfranchising to many, many of our Republicans,” he told GOP central committee members. “So, that is one of the reasons I am running, to bring all of these groups together.”
