Sen. Richard Shelby opposes defense spending bill, says it exceeds limits of sequestration

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Tuscaloosa, today repeated what’s been a consistent stance in refusing to support spending that goes beyond the parameters of sequestration.

In a statement issued today following a full Senate Appropriations Committee markup of the FY 2014 appropriations bill for the Department of Defense, Shelby said he opposed a spending plan that exceeds by nearly $91 billion the limits of the Budget Control Act, more commonly known as sequestration.
