Sheriff quoted as saying , “We haven’t really decided exactly how we are going to use them yet…”
Blount County Sheriff Loyd Arrington and chief deputy William Ferry proudly display one of the two Humvees (High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle) the department recently received from the military.
“We haven’t really decided exactly how we are going to use them yet but we are sure proud to have them,” said Arrington.
The vehicles were made available through a program designed to allow law enforcement agencies to take advantage of surplus military equipment. Arrington said the department sent personnel to Fort Bragg, N.C., to pick up the two vehicles last week. The only requirement for the department is to replace the vehicle’s camouflage color scheme – the one pictured has the typical green forest pattern while the other has the desert pattern. Arrington says the vehicles will be put to use almost immediately. A conservative estimate values the vehicles at more than $30,000 each.
